Witney TV – The Big Turn On!

WitneyTV website launchA big thank you to all those who came to the WitneyTV launch event that was held in our offices on Friday 25th November.

WitneyTV is a local community website that film all the goings on in the Witney and West Oxfordshire area. The launch at the end of November marked the second stage in the launch of their new website and alongside the video section, a directory of local businesses went live. These listings are free so make sure that you register your business today!

To mark the event, we held a drop in session for any local business to come and ask us questions on web design, web development and online marketing, as well as registering for the Business Directory if they hadn’t already done so. This was followed by a networking lunch where refreshments were provided by Samuelsons of Witney, Wychwood Brewery, Foxbury Farm and The Solan Goose.

The big turn on then happened around 3pm when Prime Minister David Cameron arrived to officially launch the website.

We would like to say a big thank you to the Prime Minister, the companies listed above as well as Beautiful Chair Cover Hire who helped to make the room look so great and everyone who attended for helping to make the day a big success. You can see the video of the turn on over on the WitneyTV website.

Summary of our Oxford Rugby Club Networking Event

Oxford Rugby Club Networking event at Urban ElementThe Oxford Rugby Club Networking event was held at our offices in Witney on November 15th.

This networking seminar focused on online marketing, with a presentation from Jon Ellard entitled “A Strategic Approach to Web Design & Online Marketing”.  This highlighted the importance of getting all aspects of your online presence right and having a consistent message across all of your online platforms.

While Jon was presenting this, our Creative Director Malcolm and our Online Marketing Specialist Nikki were busy preparing website reviews for two willing volunteers, Holt Hotel and Bertram Rota. These website reviews analysed the design of the websites, their social media presence and the technical setup on the site. All of these factors are likely to be affecting their positions in the search results, as well as the conversion rates of customers once they are on their websites. These reviews are available from Urban Element for £149+VAT. If you are interested in one of these or would like more information, please contact us.

We have had some really great feedback from delegates at the event via Twitter, as well as some really positive email comments. One such example of this is the feedback that we received from Carl Evans at St James’s Place Wealth Management who commented:

Thanks for the seminar yesterday, I got some clear messages, notably Social Media is here to stay!  Interesting how you talk about the website and social media being integral to marketing strategies.

Carl enjoyed the event so much that he will also be attending our WitneyTV launch on November 25th.

The presentation was followed by a networking lunch where all delegates got the chance to ask questions to our online marketing and web design specialists. In particular, they all seemed to be really fired up about the use of social media following the presentation by Jon and the inclusion of this in the website reviews.

Witney TV- Creating a Community Powered Website

Having a business based in Witney has many benefits, not only is the location great, but being here means that we get to be part of a thriving community. So when Witney TV came to us asking if we could help them with their new website, we couldn’t wait to get involved!

Witney TV was founded by Barry Clack in May 2010 and quickly became the site of choice for the West Oxfordshire community to catch up on news and current affairs. As the viewing figures grew it became apparent that original website was going to need to grow as well, so Barry came to UE to see how we could help.

We wanted the new site to be a real social hub powered by the local community so, as well as hosting all the videos; we also wanted to incorporate event listings, advertising, a business directory and social media. We turned to Business Catalyst (Adobe’s Content Management System) to provide the functionality for this as it not only enables our web design team to create the different applications needed but also allows the Witney TV team to control and update the site easily themselves.

It was decided that the site would need a two phase launch. Phase one went live on August 10th 2011 and allows visitors to register their company information and list local events, as well as of course hosting video of  West Oxfordshire events. Phase two will be a much bigger launch with all the directories and advertising filled with local information and potentially some extra features on the site. The Second Launch will be in November and to celebrate the completion of the site, Witney TV and UE are planning something pretty special. Stay tuned to the Blog and Twitter feeds, as we’ll be announcing our plans soon!

In the mean time if you are a West Oxford Business, Charity or Community group head over the Witney TV site and register your information.
